CANADIANS FOR AFRICA - JOURNEY TO JINJA UGANDA - Volunteer, Learn, Connect, Explore!

Trip Dates: January 10 - 24, 2015
Total Project Contribution: $3,200 + airfare 

January 10 & 11: Departure from Canada and Arrival in Uganda
Depart from Canada for your international flight to Uganda. Enjoy a layover at a European airport and then travel to Entebbe Airport in Uganda. Stay overnight (Jan. 11) in Entebbe.

January 12: Travel to Jinja
Welcome to Uganda! Travel to Jinja by bus (4.5 hours). You’ll check into your guesthouse (www.surjios.com) and you’ll also have a chance to email your family, change currency, and take a tour of the town. In the late-afternoon, your GIVE International guide will provide a volunteer orientation session. Enjoy a “Welcome to Uganda” dinner in the evening.

January 13 to 17: Hands-on Volunteer Activities in Jinja
- Preparation and distribution of Family Kits (mosquito nets, soap, blankets, etc.) to homes in need
- Infrastructure development projects (basic construction activities + painting desks, etc.)
- Visit a Uganda Grandmothers/Grandfathers project and learn how they are raising and supporting a generation of youth orphaned by HIV/AIDS
- Breakfast feedings at rural schools
- Recreational activities in Railway Barracks and in Kiryowa Village
- Orphan & vulnerable children project support
- Mobile health clinic support

After volunteering during the day, return to the guesthouse to enjoy the beautiful swimming pool, followed by a delicious, healthy meal at a nearby restaurant.

January 18: A Day of R&R
After volunteering and connecting with the local community over the past few days, enjoy a leisurely Sunday! Options include attending a lively church service, doing an afternoon boat cruise on the Nile River, or relaxing by the pool.

January 19 to 21: Hands-on Volunteer Activities in Jinja (continued)

January 22: Team Debrief
After saying goodbye to your new friends, drive (1 hour) to the famous Mabira Forest for a chance to rest, relax, and debrief at the beautiful, eco-award winning Mabira Rainforest Lodge. http://tinyurl.com/oapgkmt

January 23 & 24: Homeward Bound
After lunch by the Lodge pool, pack your bags and drive (3 hours) to Entebbe for one last team dinner at The Laico Lake Victoria Hotel Hotel before catching your departure flight. After a brief layover at a European airport, you’ll fly home to Canada (arriving January 24) to see your friends & family, who, no doubt, will be eagerly awaiting your arrival.

Total Project Contribution: $3,200 + airfare (non-refundable, non-transferable)
All contributions are eligible for charitable tax receipts.

Includes: 
Pre-departure support and administration, international airfare, emergency medical insurance, air cancellation and interruption insurance, bottled water, accommodations, all meals, debrief at Mabira Rainforest Lodge, volunteer orientation & debriefing, Ugandan GIVE International trip guide and local support staff, domestic transportation, and use of a satellite phone in case of emergency.

Does not include: Ugandan Tourist visa ($50 USD), travel deviations, additional baggage fees, emergency medical insurance, single-room supplement, immunizations & anti-malaria medication, snacks, items of a personal nature, phone calls, alcohol, and souvenirs.
