Travel Information:

How do I get a Ugandan Visa?
Tourist/Volunteer visas are very easy to obtain at the Entebbe Airport in Uganda or the Nairobi airport in Kenya, but you will need to pay for it yourself when you arrive. A tourist visa costs US$ 30 (Uganda) and US$ 50 (Kenya) and must be paid for with US cash. VISA's are valid for 90 days from the time you enter the country.

Will I be met at the airport?
Yes, a GIVE INTERNATIONAL representative will be holding a sign with your name on it, and will then transfer you to a local guesthouse in the capital city for your orientation/briefing sessions.

Does GIVE INTERNATIONAL provide insurance and liability?
Travel / Medical insurance is included on the Group Volunteer Programs, but NOT on the Individual Volunteer Programs (as everyone has differing placement lengths). Regardless of program, all GIVE INTERNATIONAL volunteers are required to have travel/medical insurance for the duration of their overseas placement. For more information, please contact our office.

Will I be able to travel during my placement?
If you are volunteering in an individual project, you are required to be at your project site during working hours from Monday to Friday, but in your free time you are free to explore. East Africa is a beautiful region with much to see and do, and your GIVE representative will be happy to assist you in making your plans.

Can I travel after my project?
Yes, once you complete the duration of your individual project, you are free to travel independently. (However, any costs incurred after the completion of your placement with GIVE INTERNATIONAL are not eligible for charitable tax receipts). Remember though, it is your responsibility to make sure that your travel/medical insurance, and 90-day VISA are still valid.
