The Witmer Family & Friends Project

Our Goal

This summer, Julie Witmer (along with Kate, Emma, Lyndsay, Isla, Vicky, Jolie, Quan, and Jaxen) will be traveling to East Africa to continue supporting schools and medical clinics in poverty-stricken areas.

Details

1st stop: Jinja, Uganda
Julie Witmer and her team will be supporting a medical mobile clinic whose staff drive into remote areas to help residents that have extremely minimal access to healthcare.  They will also be working at two different schools, and helping out at a clinic for children with special needs.  Financial donations will be going towards buying supplies for the medical mobile clinic, and school supplies for the children in this community.

2nd Stop: Muhuru Bay, Kenya
Julie will be traveling back to the Senye Medical Clinic located on the border of Kenya and Tanzania.  This region doesn’t have any other NGO’s assisting them, and has very minimal government support.  The Senye Medical Clinic is one of the only medical clinics in this area for over 100,000 people.  There are extremely poor road conditions which makes access to other medical clinics in other towns nearly impossible.  The Senye Clinic is trying to expand to add 20 more medical beds in order to accommodate the vast need for more healthcare.  A large portion of your financial donations will be going towards this clinic to add more beds.  The clinic provides life saving care to people stricken with malaria, tuberculosis, sickle cell anemia, malnutrition in children, and HIV/AIDS.  It is also the only maternity service in the area, which delivers about 40 babies a month, with an estimated survival rate of 80%.

How You Can Help

Financial Donations:
Julie and her team are trying to raise $15,000 in order to help the medical clinic add more beds, and purchase medical and school supplies.  100% of your financial donations will be going directly to these projects, and a charitable tax receipt will be issued through GIVE International.  Please consider any amount to help.

Donate Supplies:
Julie and her team will be bringing medical equipment and school supplies with them.  The medical clinics are very sparse, and the pharmacies are often empty.  The team also needs extra suitcases to carry the donations and they will leave these in Uganda.  Please reach out to Julie (juliemaewitmer@gmail.com) directly if you have any medical supplies or large suitcases that you wish to donate.  Supplies that are needed but not limited to:

  • Dopplers
  • Littmann stethoscopes (adult/pediatric/neonatal)
  • Gauze, cord clamps, cord clamp removers
  • Delivery / Suture Instruments (forceps, scissors, etc)
  • Suture material
  • Pediatric/Neonatal Ambubag and mask
  • Automatic Blood Pressure Cuffs
  • Medications (Sample packages are great – Tylenol, Pedialyte, Oxytocin, Misoprostol, Asthma meds, etc)
  • New Soccer Balls, New Volleyballs, New Ball Pumps

Volunteer:
If anyone is interested in volunteering in Kenya at the Senye Medical Clinic with Julie in the beginning of September, please reach out directly to her (juliemaewitmer@gmail.com).  They love to have people come that are willing to help in any capacity (Healthcare, accounting/IT, construction, electrical, painting, or even gardening!)

Thank you everyone for helping our global community.
