Latrines for Jinja

Uganda Latrine
Uganda Latrine

In May 2025, Will and Nicolas traveled to Jinja, Uganda to volunteer with GIVE International.  While volunteering in a number of GIVE initiatives, they spent the majority of their time in the Railways Community — one of Jinja’s most economically marginalized areas — where they conducted Breakfast Feedings for the 172 children from Railways Primary School, and met with local leaders to better understand the challenges faced by the local residents.

In these meetings, the local community leaders spoke of issues such as unemployment, overcrowding, limited healthcare, and poor sanitation.  Of these, their most urgent concern was the severe shortage of toilets for local residents.  With more than 2,000 residents in the community — and a population projected to double in the next decade — the community is already in need of more pit latrines.

As a result, Will and Nicolas are aiming to raise CAN$ 7,000 in order to support the construction of six new community latrines in the Railways Community, helping to improve sanitation will preventing the spread of disease.

If you’d like to help Will and Nicolas hit their goal for the construction of these latrines, and you can donate by choosing Latrines for Uganda from the list of projects on our donations page, and you will receive an charitable tax receipt for income tax purposes.
